Too many metal musicians are hung up on being technically proficient. They focus too much on how good they play their instrument, and, a lot of the time, forget to make good music. It’s not how well you play, it’s how good the end product is. Metal is more related to Punk than most idiots would like to admit. There is more in raw energy and skill than there is in technical ability.
Motorhead will always be better than Dream Theater.
No band filled with talented showboats will ever make an album as good as Welcome to Hell.
Old School Death Metal will always be superior to Brutal Death Metal and (overly-)Technical (wank) Death Metal, no matter how good the guys in Necrofagist, or all the Necrofagist-wannabes that make up Tech Death, are at playing their instruments.
End of story.
